Fez and Farley

Meet Fez (boy) and Farley (girl) dolphin topiary planters.  Chase named them and the fed them breakfast.  He liked seeing the food he fed them fall through.

Christmas kick-off

Carriage ride with the Kittners
The whole town came out - it was a mob
Santa lit the Christmas tree
We joined the Kittner family to kick-off Christmas with a tree lighting, crafts, hot chocolate, and Santa at a nearby shopping center. The entire rest of the town joined us too. Everyone must be eagerly anticipating the holiday. Chase was excited to go out "in the dark" -- it was only 6pm -- however, all the kids were melting down less than two hours later. Let the holiday festivities begin!

Story time

For almost two years, almost every night since Chase began sleeping in his bid kid bed (more than 700 nights - can it be?), I have told Chase a story after we read a few books and turned off the light. Although now I have a confession: I am out of stories. I made up some ridiculous ones, boring ones, funny ones, stolen ones. I have none left. My imagination is empty.

This started as a fun treat, something that I guessed Chase may enjoy, something that reminds me of my dad who made up stories for me. But I did not expect this lark to become a habit.

I always ask Chase what our story will be about, and he provides the topic to kick off the theme, usually based on a friend or a cartoon or a book. But now I rely on him more and more for plot and character development. "And then what happened?" I say. I have tried skipping the story, claiming "it's too late" or "Mama is tired", but he persists.

Chase loves to interrupt the story and add his own events and characters, thankfully. Guest stars include:
- "Kick Chase", based on the Kick Buttowski Disney skateboarding cartoon which I can hope Chase has seen only once
- "Fruit Punch" and "Kick Stand", a joke between him and Dad
- Angry Birds and the Mighty Eagle
- himself
They usually show up in a group, and don't leave one out.

Summoning inspiration from who-knows-where, I will continue our little tradition for as long as Chase lets me. I like it too.

The boys and their toys

Chase reviewed the Target toys catalog and circled the presents he wants for Christmas - which included anything that isn't pink.  Chris scoured the Williams Sonoma catalog for Thanksgiving dinner ideas.

Dinner letter scramble

Rearrange the potato letters on Chase's dinner plate, and what do you get?  A slightly inappropriate word for a 3 year old, which I totally did not intend as I grabbed the letters out of the freezer bag. Of course Chase still figured it out.

Chase's 10 rules of voting

On this national election day of President Barack Obama vs Governor Mitt Romney, Chase has 10 rules to guide your voting process, knowing you all will exercise your American right:
  1 - Vote
  2 - Brush your teeth
  3 - Vote
  4 - Take a bath
  5 - Vote
  6 - Don't be stinky
  7 - Vote
  8 - Read a story
  9 - Vote
10 - Go to sleep

If Chase's voting rules sound suspiciously like a bedtime routine, that could be because he told me these rules while being tucked in on Monday night. Chase said he will be president. A mom can dream, right?

All the same, he makes a good point. Vote.

And here he is standing in line with me to vote this morning. He waited so patiently for an hour in the cold! He told everyone - and I mean everyone - he was there to vote.
