We decided to end Chase's nighttime pacifier (boo-boo, to him) habit last night. He only uses it for sleeping, so there's no cutting back, just cutting out. And, boy, does he love his boo-boo.
Taking some friends' advice, we cut a hole in the paci and told Chase it is broken. He understood that as soon as he put it in his mouth, but he didn't like it one bit. He wanted it fixed. After about an hour of crying in total, he was asleep by 10pm, slept until 7am, and woke up as the happiest little kid. Woo-hoo! So far, so good, right?
At today's nap, Chase was still unhappy about his broken boo-boo. After about half an hour of crying, we heard a thump from his room. Chris found him standing by the door trying to get out. Chase had climbed out of his crib, and he could too easily show us how he did it.
So, Chris is now at the store finding us a solution to the crib problem before tonight's adventures begin: kicking the paci habit AND getting Chase to stay in his new bed? We'll let you know how it goes!
