What a charmer

To balance last week's post -- a reflection on a rollercoaster of an evening filled with humor and frustration -- I have to say what a joy Chase has been the past few days. Consistently, he has been funny, easygoing, smart, and sweet.

He woke up at 6am today after a restless night. I attempted to get him back to sleep by bringing him to my bed. After a few minutes of quiet, he started singing "Old Mac Donald" and laughing. Too cute to not wake up. It was the beginning of a really happy morning. You're the best, little buddy!

First movie

We took Chase to his first movie on Sunday evening - Despicable Me. It was a cold and windy night - the perfect time to get cozy in front of the big screen. From Chase's view, what's not to love about watching HUGE cartoons and eating crackers and popcorn? Chase was so excited, he wanted to narrate for the audience: "Daddy, look!", "Mommy, look, elephant!" After an hour, he got antsy and we made for the exit, but he loved it!

Visiting with Santa

Chase did very well meeting Santa yesterday. He gave Santa his best discerning/confused look. Thanks for the outfit GG!

Thursday, December 9, 2010

Chase learns to get undressed. After he pulled his shirt off, he said "Oh no, pants!" and tried the pants, too. He got just far enough.

Bonus:
Chase's new sentences:
"I pooped."
"I like music."

Spend a Wednesday evening with us

When I picked Chase up from daycare yesterday, he did not want to leave. Instead, he wanted to color with his friends. So he got very upset as I carried him out to the car where we had a wrestling match to get him into his car seat. On a side note, Chris likens these fits to halibut fishing, and I think it is spot on. You wait and hold the line while the fish (or Chase in our case) fights and tires himself out, then when there is a little release on the line (or when Chase briefly relents to the torture of putting on pants or getting into a seat) you make your move and reel 'em in! Anyway, after halibut fishing Chase into his seat, we were on our way. Not even seeing Christmas lights on our way home made him happy.

But ... we had the perfect solution at home for just this grumpy occasion. A box! Thank you to Pa-Ga Paul for unknowingly providing our entertainment for the evening with the big box in which you sent Chris the food. Here is Chase happily coloring in the perfectly kid-sized box. Lilly sure looks interested - hmm, wonder why?

Not long after Chase finished with the box, he pulled out kitchen wares. I call this "Yell loudly and carry a big rolling pin." He was seconds away from eating dinner and mad at me for taking his picture instead of putting him in his highchair. Oh, now you want to eat?

After dinner, it was time for more box coloring. This time with dueling reprimands:
- "Chase, don't eat the crayon."
- "Lilly, don't eat the crayon."
- "Chase, I said don't eat it."
- "Lilly, did you eat that??!" (I think Lilly has devoured 2 1/2 crayons to date. Supposedly non-toxic.)

Needing a change of scenery, Chase and I went downstairs to play. Books, puzzles, basketball, etc. But the highlight was his unprompted walking around with his ukelele and singing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". I only figured it out at the E-I-E-I-O part. Adorable! I have a goal of getting some of these cute moments on video for you, but I missed this one.

So, that's our Wednesday night, folks. Now, who wants to visit?? : )

Advent goldfish

Yesterday Chase saw the advent calendar I set up in preparation for the month, and he said "Doors, Mommy, doors!". So we had a little fun opening and closing the doors and hiding pig and chicken in the cubbies.

This year's advent treat is goldfish crackers -- which belong in the orange crackers food group, his favorite. We opened the first door this morning to find a few goldfish hidden inside. Chase was happy about that.
