Week 31: Picture of Baby B

We have another picture of Baby to share from today's doctor visit! Baby's face is slightly toward you on the right, and you may be able to see the shadows around his eyes, nose, and mouth. He is holding a fist up to his head.

Baby B is estimated to weigh a little over 3 pounds, right on target according to the doctor. He has turned around and is now head down, as he should be. Baby is still very active and treats me to kicks & punches several times a day.

I got a good report from the doctor as well ... good blood pressure, weight, and glucose levels. Watching those carbs! A special thanks to Grandma Bevacqua for
her understanding and advice while Chris & I visited during Christmas.

Next doctor visit is in two weeks ... we'll be in touch!

Week 28: Another good report

Received another good report from the doctor today! Good weight, good blood pressure, and good heartbeat from the baby. She said I looked great!
The only blip so far has been the wacky glucose, which I am now monitoring before and after meals and reporting back to my counselor and doctor every week. That will regulate the highs and lows and keep Baby happy.
I'll start seeing the doctor every two weeks after Christmas!

Week 28: Baby is a Chinese cabbage

We have found lots of baby information websites out there. This one includes a slideshow comparing the size and weight of Baby to fruits and vegetables. A great visual which is a little bit funny (for Dad) and a little bit scary (for Mom). This week, Baby is a Chinese cabbage: 2.25 pounds & 15 inches long. (Just wait until pineapple week!)

Doctor appointment on Friday Dec 12 ... will have an update then!

Week 28: Pregnant Lady Purgatory

(yes, Elizabeth is finally posting!)

At about 28 weeks, pregnant women have to take a glucose tolerance screening test which measures the likelihood that they have gestational diabetes. The test is pretty simple: the lab draws a blood sample as a control, the pregnant lady drinks a sweet syrup that tastes like orange soda, and after an hour wait, the lab draws another blood sample to test the level of glucose in the blood. Well, this pregnant lady failed that test last week! So, on Saturday I had to return to the lab for a more accurate three-hour version of the test. After fasting the night before and drinking that syrupy stuff again, my blood was drawn on the hour for three hours. Feeling woozy and secluded from the world in that tiny beige waiting room and knowing it was only a matter of time before my arms got stuck again (in the same place they were stuck the hour before), those were three long hours. Hence, the pregnant lady purgatory. Only one other woman was there with me that morning, sitting in those uncomfortable chairs. She fell asleep (and snored). I have to mention that around hour 1 1/2, my wonderful husband came by to check on me and keep me company for a bit. Thanks to him and my new best friend, the very friendly lab tech Kim, I made it out of purgatory. To keep everyone in suspense, I don't have results yet, but will let you know as soon as I do!

And to all the moms who know better than me, I can imagine this is just the beginning of all the fun ...
UPDATE: Good news! No gestational diabetes here. But my doctor has recommended I see a diabetic nutritionist to discuss foods that will help prevent it and keep me feeling well.
